Hyperthermia Treatment Planning: Clinical Application and Ongoing Developments

نویسندگان

چکیده

Hyperthermia is a proven clinical anti-cancer treatment, used in combination with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy. During hyperthermia, tumour tissue heated to 40-43 °C using radiofrequency or microwave antennas, which strongly enhances effectiveness of and treatment quality depends on temperatures achieved planning (i.e., simulation optimization absorbed power temperature distributions) could be very useful ensure improve quality. was mainly research tool for decades, because high computational costs limited quantitative accuracy predictions due lack patient-specific properties. Thanks developments over the past decade, becomes increasingly important workflow. Presently, main applications hyperthermia are 1) applicator selection, 2) heating ability evaluation 3) on-line guidance. To reliability further increase applicability planning, ongoing focus dielectric imaging derive properties, advanced thermal modelling including discrete vasculature biological predict radiosensitizing effect terms equivalent radiation dose. The increased application efforts will

Eecient Methods in Hyperthermia Treatment Planning ?

The aim of this paper is to describe and analyse function-als which can be used for computing hyperthermia treatment plans. All these functionals have in common that they can be optimised by eecient numerical methods. These methods have been implemented and tested with real data from the Rudolf Virchow Klinikum, Berlin. The results obtained by these methods are comparable to those obtained by c...

PET vs. SPECT: in the context of ongoing developments

This paper intends to compare the abilities of the two major imaging modalities in nuclear medicine imaging: Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). The motivations are many-fold: (i) To gain a better understanding of the strengths and limitations of the two imaging modalities in the context of recent and ongoing developments in hardware ...

Matrix-Variate Beta Generator - Developments and Application

Matrix-variate beta distributions are applied in different fields of hypothesis testing, multivariate correlation analysis, zero regression, canonical correlation analysis and etc. A methodology is proposed to generate matrix-variate beta generator distributions by combining the matrix-variate beta kernel with an unknown function of the trace operator. Several statistical characteristics, exten...

Hyperthermia Treatment Planning in Clinical Cancer Therapy: Modelling, Simulation, and Visualization

The speaker and his co-workers in Scientific Computing and Visualization have established a close cooperation with medical doctors at the Rudolf–Virchow–Klinikum of the Humboldt University in Berlin on the topic of regional hyperthermia. In order to permit a patient–specific treatment planning, a special software system (HyperPlan) has been developed. A mathematical model of the clinical system...
